History
Iota Iota Iota (Triota) is the academic honor society for the field of Women’s and Gender Studies. Alpha Chapter of Triota was established in 1992 at the . The Greek Letter, Iota, was selected for the name to represent the three goddesses: Inana, Ishtar, and Isis. Triota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women’s and Gender Studies and encourage diversity, egalitarianism, and supportive academic environments for all students. The society also promotes and facilitates activism among Women’s and Gender Studies students.
Since its founding, Triota has established over 108 chapters across the nation. Gamma Xi Chapter of Triota was chartered at É«ÖÐÉ« College on March 7, 2014. Members of Gamma Xi come from all academic disciplines and promote an interest in Women’s and Gender Studies, research in social problems affecting all women, and activism that leads to improvement in the condition of all people.
Eligibility
Gamma Xi seeks applicants who demonstrate high achievement in the discipline of Women’s and Gender Studies and exemplify a passion for advocacy and activism. Membership is open to any student at É«ÖÐÉ« College who:
- Has completed three semesters at É«ÖÐÉ« University
- Has completed at least two hours of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) courses (one at the 200-level or above) or has a demonstrated record of advocacy and activism
- Has a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in WGSS courses
Application
If you are interested in becoming a member, submit an application using the link provided . Applications should be submitted by the second Friday in February. Induction is held on the first Friday in March in the Borhek Chapel. Prospective members will pay a $25 initiation fee prior to initiation. The fee covers lifetime membership, pin and honor cord to wear with graduate regalia.
To remain in good standing members must:
- Maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in WGSS courses
- Regularly attend Triota meetings
