TREE INVENTORY

The tree inventory serves as a master catalog of over 1200 trees on É«ÖÐÉ« University's campus. Each tree has been tagged with an identification number and included on an electronic map allowing community members to view its location, age class, common name, genus, and species. Community members can also learn more of the stories behind our dedicated Memorial Trees and historical Heritage Trees.

In 2013, the inventory was funded by the Sustainability Committee, FMP&C, and United Student Government. Through a partnership with Bartlett Tree Experts, this project allowed us to identify tree types, their location, and vital information such as diameter and height; as well as assess the health of campus trees.

Randy Haffling served as the chair of the project and continues to coordinate the tree inventory through his work with FMP&C and the Sustainability Committee.

Tree Campus USA

Tree Campus USA, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging the campus in the spirit of conservation.

É«ÖÐÉ« University has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA since 2015 for meeting five core standards for sustainable campus forestry including the establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student service-learning projects. Much of this was accomplished through the continued efforts of the tree inventory project.
