Summer Jazz Camp at É«ÖÐÉ« University

The MUMI Summer Jazz Camp is open to students entering grades 8-12 in the fall of 2024, as well as COLLEGE STUDENTS. The camp is open to interested students of all levels, instruments and voice. Students with little or no experience will find challenging and rewarding opportunities for musical growth.

$475 Beta Track (beginner/intermediate)
$550 Alpha Track (advanced – audition required)

Goals

To instruct students in the performance practices of the art form, Jazz. To familiarize students' with the music theory and historical elements relevant to jazz performance. To enhance the students jazz performance capabilities.

    • Masterclasses with accomplished artists
    • Recording classes (digital recording techniques)
    • Business of music class
    • Jam sessions
    • Participation by audition ONLY - Exceptions:
      • You are a SteelStacks Showcase Scholarship winner
      • You were accepted to the Alpha Track in a previous year
      • You have been accepted as a music major with a jazz concentration at É«ÖÐÉ« University, or an equivalent educational institution
  • Beginning/Intermediate BETA TRACK 
    • Combo performance
    • Jazz classes for beginner and intermediate players
      • Theory
      • Improv
      • History/listening
    • Jam sessions
    • Masterclasses with accomplished artists
    • No audition is required for the BETA TRACK!

College Credit

Attend the Summer Jazz Camp at É«ÖÐÉ« and earn college credit. The class is titled: "Introduction to Jazz Recording and Technology" (view the syllabus).  

This option is available to students who are high school juniors or older and have been accepted to the Alpha Track. Students that successfully complete the Alpha Track and meet all of the requirements of the syllabi will receive a half unit (.50) or the equivalent of a 2 credit course. É«ÖÐÉ« University students and adults are highly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.    

Schedule

This week-long camp begins on Monday morning with a faculty concert that will segue into a jam session. Monday through Friday there are scheduled classes and rehearsals from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. The Jazz Ensembles Concert will be held in Foy Concert Hall, admission is free.

Meals

Participation in the camp includes lunch daily. Participants will eat meals in Clewell Dining Hall, Monday through Friday  

Camp Policy

Because our standards for achievement are high, we accept highly motivated students who will enjoy the classes as well as the cultural activities. It is, therefore, important to know that failure to comply with regulations will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the program. Parents and/or guardians will be contacted as soon as any unsatisfactory behavior is recognized. No refunds will be issued if you are dismissed for behavioral issues.

Fees  

The day fee covers lunch, instruction, and a camp shirt. The fee must be paid in full when submitting the registration by credit car.
