Student Opportunities

German, Spanish, and French Clubs

The department has clubs in German, French, and Spanish. Students are strongly encouraged to join these clubs and participate in their social and cultural activities on and off campus. Such activities include get-togethers, visits to museums and attending events in New York City and Philadelphia. If interested, please contact your language instructor.

The German house on campus also offers German majors the possibilities to live with German exchange students.

Phi Sigma Iota: International Foreign Language Honor Society

Phi Sigma Iota is the International Foreign Language Honor Society for undergraduate [college] and graduate students. It is over 80 years old, and the first of its kind. In fall of 1984, our chapter, Delta Lambda, was installed under the leadership of Dr. Astrid Kromayer. There are hundreds of chapters at American colleges and universities and abroad.

The primary purpose of the society is to honor those who have distinguished themselves in the study of one or more foreign languages, comparative literature, or bilingual education. There are specific requirements set in the handbook for membership, and every spring Delta Lambda Chapter welcomes new members into the society representing French, Spanish, and German. If you are a  language major or minor; you may be eligible to join.
