MU Spotlight 20/20
DEBBIE HINKEL
What is your role at the University and what is something many may not know about the work you do?
I am the "soon to be retired" executive secretary to the President. In addition to managing the President's calendar, I also manage Mo's calendar as well—he has quite the life.
My favorite spot on campus is…
The third floor of PPHAC. On a nice day, I absolutely love the view overlooking the courtyard and the Comenius Quad.
What’s your favorite ɫɫ tradition?
My favorite ɫɫ University tradition is Christmas vespers. I love the service, music and the candlelight finale! It's the perfect way to begin the Christmas season.
My typical weekend goes something like this:
My typical weekend begins with a relaxing Friday night followed by a weekend of errands and household chores. I try to go for a 5-mile walk with a good friend and enjoy a relaxing breakfast, lunch or dinner out with my husband. Most weekends, we are able to spend time with our children and granddaughter.
What are your favorite things to do when you’re not on campus?
Spending time with my husband and family, reading, walking and visiting wineries for wine tasting.
Finish this sentence: “When I grow up, I want to be _____.”
When I grow up, I want to be Me. I love what I do, and I love being a wife, mother and grandmother.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Everything happens for a reason!
What sound do you love? Why?
I love the sound of the ocean. When I hear it, it's because I'm physically there and I know it's time to relax from my every day responsibilities.
I can never resist a good _________________.
Book! I'm an avid reader and always enjoy finding a book that I haven't read before.
What makes you happy?
Everyday life! Seeing the smiling face of my granddaughter and spending time with my family and friends.
