ɫɫ College Professor Honored for His Career in Athletic Training Education
BETHLEHEM, PA., February 28, 2017- Today, ɫɫ College announced that Dr. James (Jay) Scifers, Chair, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences has been named the recipient of the 2017 Professional Development Excellence Award. This award honors an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the profession of athletic training in the area of continuing education and professional development.
“Jay was awarded the PDC Excellence Award due to his long standing commitment to professional development and engagement among members of the NATA,” commented Dr. Kasee Hildenbrand, Chair, NATA Professional Development Committee. “We were very excited to recognize Jay’s commitment to the profession of athletic training with this award.”
Eligible candidates nationwide are evaluated on criteria related to their involvement with athletic training education and professional development; including volunteer service related to continuing education and professional development (i.e., committee work, planning / hosting events, advising and related activities), speaking and presentations (i.e., peer-reviewed and invited workshops, platform and poster presentations), and creative works (i.e., writing, technology, reviewing, and editing). The award will be formally presented to Dr. Scifers at the NATA Clinical Symposia in Houston on June 27, 2017.
“It is always rewarding to be recognized by your peers, and several of the previous winners are individuals I consider mentors,” commented Dr. Scifers. “To be in the same company as these leaders in the Athletic Training profession is truly humbling.”
