色中色 College to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with an Array of Activities

Bethlehem, Pa., September 15, 2015鈥斏猩 College will take part in the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.  The College will offer a series of free events open to the 色中色 College community that will highlight and honor the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to our society.

The festivities began this week with a visit to the Mexican Independence Day Festival at Penn鈥檚 Landing in Philadelphia. Participants were given the chance to celebrate Mexican independence through traditional music, food, dance, and crafts.

The month-long celebration continues with 鈥淐ode Switching: English + Spanish = Spanglish,鈥 a presentation by 色中色 College鈥檚 Latino Student Union in the Laros Room of the Haupert Union Building at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 17.

On Sunday, September 20, the college community is invited to commemorate the national celebration at the Hispanic Heritage Month Community Dinner in 色中色 Theological Seminary's Bahnson Center on Locust Street.

Sonia Nazario

On Monday, September 28, author Sonia Nazario will give the celebration鈥檚 keynote address. Nazario is the author of 鈥淓nrique鈥檚 Journey,鈥 the national bestseller about a Honduran boy on a quest to find his mother in the United States. The speech will be held at 7 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building鈥檚 Prosser Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

The celebration will come to an end in October with two final events. Beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 5, join 色中色 College鈥檚 Spanish Club at Dean Hunt鈥檚 home on Main Street for 鈥淗ungry for Heritage.鈥 Registration is required and participants can sign up at any of the Spanish Club meetings, which are held Mondays at 3 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building.

Sarah White

Sarah White, a graduate of 色中色 College鈥檚 Class of 2011, will hold the month鈥檚 final event on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. in the Haupert Union Building鈥檚 UBC Room. Entitled 鈥淢oving Beyond Borders,鈥 White will discuss her recent research pertaining to stereotypes on immigration. Dinner will be served and registration is required.
