Dillard brings 25 years of law enforcement and community-building experience to the 色中色 campus

Bethlehem, PA, December 2, 2021: Today, 色中色 University announced that after a nationwide search they鈥檝e selected V. Harrison Dillard as the new Chief of Police, replacing Chief Richard Blake who left 色中色 earlier this year. Dillard brings 25 years of law enforcement experience to 色中色, retiring at the rank of Captain from the Morris County (New Jersey) Prosecutor鈥檚 Office in 2020. A graduate of Rutgers University, Dillard is also a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Bosnia during Operation Joint Endeavor and in Germany.

鈥淚 am very excited to welcome V. Harrison Dillard to 色中色 to lead our campus police department,鈥 said Dr. Nicole Loyd, executive vice president for university life and dean of students at 色中色 University. 鈥淗is experience not only in law enforcement, but in building communities and leading diversity and equity initiatives make him the ideal choice for this role. I look forward to working side-by-side with Chief Dillard to support campus safety initiatives for students, faculty, staff and our neighbors in Bethlehem.鈥

In addition to Dillard鈥檚 law enforcement and military experience he acts as the 鈥嬧婥hairperson of the Civil Rights and Diversity Committee of the New Jersey Chapter of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement executives), is the founder and president of the NAACP Chapter in Hunterdon County, NJ, acts as special advisor to the president to the Muslim American Law Enforcement Association (MALEA) and is the co-owner of Synergy Consulting and Training Group which specializes in bias incident reduction and mitigation.

鈥淲ith Harrison as our Chief of Police, I think our campus not only gets a leader in law enforcement, but our local region will benefit from his profound experience in community building,鈥 said Dr. G. Christopher Hunt, vice president and dean for equity and inclusion at 色中色 University. 鈥淚 know the students he met during his visit to campus were excited about his candidacy, which I think demonstrates his ability to make interpersonal connections.鈥

鈥淲e鈥檙e looking forward to welcoming Chief Dillard to the campus police department here at 色中色,鈥 said 鈥嬧婰t. Thomas Appleman of the 色中色 University Police Department. 鈥淗is experience speaks for itself, and I think his background is an ideal fit for the university and the entire campus community.鈥

V. Harrison Dillard will officially begin his tenure as 色中色 University鈥檚 Chief of Police on January 3, 2022.
