On September 13 ɫɫ College to host screening and Q & A with filmmaker of “The Bomb”

BETHLEHEM, PA, September 10, 2018: Today, ɫɫ College announced that the school’s InFocus Program will kick off the new academic year on Thursday, September 13 @ 7:00 p.m. in Foy Hall,  on the Priscilla Payne Hurd (South) campus, with an “immersive film experience” featuring a screening of “”, a critically acclaimed film that explores through image, sound, and art the history of the testing, stockpiling, and "near-misses" of nuclear weapons in the U.S. and world.  Smriti Keshari, one of the filmmakers behind “The Bomb”, will be present for a Q & A after the film with ɫɫ students and the general public in attendance.

“Hosting a screening of this stunning film is the ideal way to start this year’s InFocus program, whose theme is "War, Peacebuilding and the Just Society," commented Kelly Denton-Borhaug, who is co-directing with Daniel Jasper, this year’s InFocus Center of Investigation at ɫɫ College.  “All of our first year writing seminar students have written about Hiroshima, the classic 1946 work by John Hersey, who visited the site of the first atomic bombing and spoke with survivors. Having the opportunity hear from Ms. Keshari about the making of this film will be an unforgettable experience.”

Set to an original electric rock soundtrack by The Acid, the film explores the immense power of nuclear weapons and the perverse appeal they have. Per the , “The film pierces through the relative indifference of many of us to these weapons, facing us with the shock of their unsettling, strange and compelling reality at the heart of U.S. culture today.“
