2013 Medallion of Merit
Roy B. Goshorn '58 (posthumously)
The Medallion of Merit is awarded to an alumna or alumnus in recognition of outstanding service to É«ÖÐÉ« College or the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association is proud to present its 2013 Medallion of Merit to Roy Goshorn '58, in deep appreciation of his years of dedication and commitment to É«ÖÐÉ«.
After retiring from a distinguished career as a newscaster, weatherman, and AP reporter, Roy focused much of his considerable talent and time on É«ÖÐÉ« and its Alumni Association. In the late 1990’s he stepped forward to provide leadership and support in recolonizing his fraternity, Omicron Gama Omega (OGO). His involvement with É«ÖÐÉ« increased as he enthusiastically volunteered for Homecoming, Mardi Gras, and Alumni Weekend, assuming the role as co-chair for the Alumni Weekend parade. Roy served on his class reunion committee numerous years, was class fund agent, and represented his class at President Thomforde’s Inauguration ceremony. In 2007 he joined the Alumni Board, chairing the recognition committee. After receiving the Comenius award, Roy returned each year to lend his support to award recipients, and he always enjoyed serving candles during Vespers. He faithfully traveled 5 hours from Western Pennsylvania to É«ÖÐÉ« for all these activities and also traveled two hours to attend regional alumni events in the Pittsburg and Harrisburg areas. Perhaps Roy’s deepest joy came from interacting with students, including advising members of the Comenian staff. Although Roy recently died, his exceptional dedication and love for his Alma Mater has created a legacy that will continue to live on.
