Tax Accounting Internship Gives Fomby an Advantage
Wendy Fomby ’14 was thinking strategically when she landed a tax accounting internship with ɫɫ alumnus Keith Bachman ’88.
Although graduation was months away, Fomby had already accepted a job offer with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), working in the international tax division of one of the Big Four auditors. Despite her post-graduation employment figured out, the accounting and financial economics double major knew she wasn’t a finished product.
“Now, I feel ready to conquer my dream at a national firm because of the positive experience I’ve had here working in a public CPA firm,” she says, noting how she gained a better understanding of international tax items and how they are treated in the United States. Additionally, Fomby, a Bartonsville native, prepared individual, partnership and corporate tax returns, and gathered clientele information needed to prepare the tax returns.

Working alongside Bachman in his Whitehall office reinforced that her career path was the right choice. “To see the passion Keith displays for this profession, the advice he provides, and hearing his experiences show me life beyond ɫɫ will be great because of the wonderful community we have,” Fomby says.
Not that Bachman ’88 made it easy for the University’s Accounting Club president. “I told Wendy, ‘I’m going to challenge you, and you let me know when you get to your job at PriceWaterhouseCoopers how prepared you feel,’” Bachman explains. “Wendy will find that her initial training at Bachman CPA and Company will provide her with an advantage over her peers when her training commences at PWC.
“I want interns who want to learn and prepare for the start of their careers in the professional world,” Bachman concludes. “We have had excellent students interning with our firm, and I attribute that to ɫɫ’s programs – and also to Professor John Rossi. I’m an advocate for ɫɫ.”
